Hur påverkas patienternas liv av refluxsjukdom?

Smärtan och besvären som orsakas av refluxsjukdom inverkar störande på patienternas dagliga liv. Refluxsjukdom inverkar störande på

  • fysisk aktivitet (t.ex. manuellt arbete, hushållsarbete, trädgårdsarbete och motion) eftersom symtomen ofta förvärras vid fysisk ansträngning [12]
  • social samvaro (t.ex. måltider med familj och vänner) eftersom symtomen förvärras under och efter måltider [12]
  • sömn eftersom symtomen ofta förvärras i liggande ställning [12]
  • arbete eftersom symtomen rubbar sömnen och ger trötthet under dagtid [12].

Patienter med ihållande symtom på refluxsjukdom kan också vara oroliga för effekterna på lång sikt [3].
