Hur vanligt är det med refluxsjukdom?
Fler än en av tio vuxna i Europa och Nordamerika har halsbränna eller sura uppstötningar minst en gång i veckan [6]. I Asien har upp till en av 20 vuxna halsbränna eller sura uppstötningar varje dag eller vecka [6].
Dessutom har många patienter symtom på refluxsjukdom i åratal [7]. När de slutligen går till doktorn har de flesta redan försökt med livsstilsförändringar och antacida, och konstaterat att detta inte räcker. En del har redan behandlats med receptbelagda läkemedel utan att nå tillfredsställande resultat [8] och känner sig frustrerade över att deras återkommande symtom inte försvinner.
